DMV Day: Why I’m Never Going to the DMV Again

It’s no secret that the DMV is—well, the worst. The long lines, the fluorescent lighting (I mean, seriously, who can take a decent selfie in there?), and then there’s the whole driving out of the Gables to take a new driver’s license pic. My makeup is basically on the floor by the time I get there.

Not anymore! The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV) has opened a mobile office at the Coral Gables Branch Library, 3443 Segovia St. DHSMV staff will set up mobile computer stations inside the library on the second Monday of the month, from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Just make sure to call the library (305-442-8706) before heading out to make sure the mobile DMV office is open that day.

Cha, cha, cha! Yup, you read that correctly! The city and DHSMV are providing residents with easy access to renew a driver’s license, obtain a replacement driver’s license, change a name or address on a driver’s license, get an identification card, and order specialty license plates. And have you been in the Coral Gables library as of late? The lighting is phenomenal— not to mention the book smell! I could go on and on.

New drivers and test-takers, take note, Driving or written tests will not be available at this location. I know, sad day. The good news is you can renew vehicle tags and get a vehicle plate when a replacement is needed. I’d say that’s a bonus considering these are services that are not offered at any main office.

Keep December 10th open for DMV Day at our Coral Gables Branch Library!
