Debunking Hypnotherapy Myths: A Night of Transformation with Pao Hypnosis at Parlay House Miami

Miami Hypnosis Event: Pao Hypnosis x Parlay House Quieting the Inner Critic Hypnotherapy

If you’ve ever been curious about hypnotherapy but felt held back by fear or misconceptions, you’re not alone — and that’s exactly why this event needed to happen.

Last Tuesday, I was invited to speak as an RTT Hypnotherapist at Pao Hypnosis for an intimate evening hosted by the incredible community at Parlay House right here in Miami. The room was filled with curious, open-hearted women ready to explore something most people never get the chance to experience firsthand: the real, transformative power of hypnotherapy.

Breaking Down the Myths

The evening kicked off with a myth-busting conversation that I think every Miami woman needs to hear. I walked us through the most common fears and misconceptions around hypnotherapy — from “you’ll lose control” to “you’ll get stuck in hypnosis” — and replaced them with a grounded, empowering understanding of how the mind actually works. Spoiler: hypnotherapy isn’t about someone taking over your mind. It’s about you gaining access to the deeper parts of it.

How the Mind Works

We dove into the fascinating mechanics of the conscious vs. subconscious mind and why so many of our patterns, fears, and self-limiting beliefs live beneath the surface — out of reach of willpower alone. Understanding this was genuinely eye-opening for the group, and I could feel the energy in the room shift as things started to click.

Transforming Your Inner Critic

The highlight of the night? I led a live group hypnotherapy session, focusing on one of the most universal struggles: the inner critic. Through guided hypnosis, we met that inner voice — not to fight it, but to understand it, heal it, and transform it into our greatest supporter. There was something incredibly powerful about doing this work alongside a group of women willing to be vulnerable and open together.

Meeting Your Inner Child

We also touched on inner child work — a cornerstone of my approach at Pao Hypnosis in Coral Gables. Connecting with your inner child in a safe, supported environment can unlock healing that years of traditional therapy sometimes can’t reach. This part of the session was tender, emotional, and deeply meaningful.

Exciting News: Mochi Zen Is Here

The night also gave me the perfect moment to share something I’ve been pouring my heart into. I officially announced the launch of Mochi Zen — an app designed for anyone who has ever struggled with emotional eating. Mochi Zen combines the power of hypnosis with smart photo meal scanning to help you break the subconscious patterns behind emotional eating and achieve permanent weight loss — not through restriction or willpower, but through real, lasting change at the root level. If you’ve been searching for an emotional eating app that goes deeper than calorie counting, this is it. The response from the room was incredible, and I can’t wait for you to try it.

At Pao Hypnosis I bring a warm, professional, and deeply intuitive approach to my work, and nights like this are proof of the transformation that’s possible.

About Author

Paola Mendez is a hypnotherapist, published author, and the curious soul behind Coral Gables Love and The Blogger Union. Her journey didn't start in a clinician's office — it started at age 15, battling a mind that used food to quiet a constant internal critic. After two decades at war with her own subconscious, searching for peace as a self-described "introvert in a loud world," Paola found her way out through hypnotherapy. That same journey pushed her out into the city she loves, discovering the gems hiding in plain sight all around Coral Gables. Today, she channels both passions into everything she does: helping people quiet their inner critic through her hypnotherapy practice Pao Hypnosis, sharing those subconscious healing tools through her app Mochi Zen, and showcasing the people, places, and flavors that make South Florida worth savoring — one matcha latte at a time. She is also the author of A Taste of Coral Gables, a cookbook featuring recipes from the city's top chefs. Say hello at info@coralgableslove.com
