Exploring Homestead, Florida: 14 Fun Things To Do

Fun Things To Do in Miami - Drive Around Coral Gables Douglas Entrance in VW Atlas SUV

I’m excited to work with our sponsors, Volkswagen & A Girls Guide to Cars, to share our adventures in Homestead, Florida.

This year, we’ve been exploring our local area by driving around. We decided to visit Homestead and discover new fun things to do. We got to try the brand new VW Atlas SUV for this adventure and it’s the perfect ride for a comfortable family trip. It’s big enough to seat 7 with three rows and a massive trunk to fit everyone’s stuff.

Our adventure started in Coral Gables where the streets are lined with old trees covered in hanging moss. Homestead is about a 30 minute drive from Coral Gables if you take the Turnpike. It’s far enough to feel like you traveled somewhere new. I’ll share some of the spots we enjoyed along with some of the favorites from our Coral Gables Love readers.

1. Robert Is Here: Best Fruit Milkshakes in Homestead

What started as a fruit stand by the road, Robert Is Here, has now become a required stop when headed to the Everglades or the Florida Keys. This family-owned market is known for their thick fruit-flavored milkshakes, smoothies, lunch specials and local produce. They carry local and exotic fruits, vegetables, flavored honey, fresh guacamole, homemade salsas and more.

They are running everything as a drive-thru during the pandemic. So we decided to have a picnic in the car with our milkshakes, guacamole, and chips. When it comes to having a picnic in your car, the VW Atlas has a wide armrest that can double as a table. You can plug in your iPhone using one of the many USB jacks and connect to the navigation screen using Apple Car Play. We listened to my 80’s Spotify playlist as we enjoyed our yummies.

When you go, don’t be deterred if you see a long line. It moves quickly. Robert Is Here is located at 19200 SW 344th St, Homestead, FL 33034. For more information visit

Brian and Simon have long legs and don’t enjoy sitting on the floor during a picnic. Luckily the Atlas has a massive trunk and they can sit comfortably in the back while we enjoy the picnic in the grass. That way everyone is comfortable and each person enjoys the picnic how they like it. If you don’t enjoy picnics try having lunch at the Mango Cafe adjacent to the park.

At 4 o’clock gray clouds rolled in with a standard Florida heavy rain. That was the sign we needed to end our Homestead expedition. We used the navigation system to guide us back home in the rain. The VW Atlas handled the rain without a problem. The wipers withstood the torrential rain and the tires felt sturdy on the pavement covered in puddles. It’s important for me to drive a vehicle that feels safe in the rain in South Florida. It rains so much here in the summer and it’s heavy rain that hinders visibility and makes the roads slippery.

After a day of shenanigans in Homestead we were back in Coral Gables enjoying the shade from the tree canopy. We had a blast in Homestead and plan to visit again soon. Do you have a favorite thing to do in Homestead that we didn’t list? Please let us know in the comments!
