Midweek with Angelique

*** Update 5/17/2018: This establishment has closed. ***

Angelique Euro Café on the Mile is just the “Little Miracle” I was wishing for. When my best friend invited me to Wines-day Wednesday here, I was expecting wine, small bites to be shared (definitely dessert), and overall good vibes. What I did not expect was to fall in love again–with food!

Even though there were about 10 other people there, the noise level was pretty low; it made for a relaxing evening. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant and so were able to catch a glimpse of every space–from the clean and modern bar area, to the bakery counter, and through the gorgeous seating area out front decorated with a lush green wall and hanging flowers.

The Wine

Our server recommended a Spanish white wine. It was Albariño, Marquez de Vizhoja (one of their special priced bottles). She poured just enough in our glasses for each of us to try–we liked it–and so we were agreed. It was a crisp wine, less sweet, and with a hint of fruit. Regardless of your preference, they have an extensive selection so you cannot go wrong!

We Did it All for the Gnocchi!

Some dishes on the menu just have a way of catching your eye, and at Angelique it was the Truffle Potato Gnocchi. If you’re going to reference truffle anywhere on the menu, you bet I’m ordering it! And because we both wanted the same dish, I compromised and ordered something different (not before making sure we would be sharing–wink). Instead I ordered the Pasta Carbonara, which wasn’t exactly drawing the shorter stick, either; it was equally amazing! The chicken ($4 extra) was incredibly juicy and seasoned well to balance the saltiness from the baby spinach. I had almost changed my mind about the whole sharing concept–yet could not resist the fluffiness of the little dumplings. They were perfectly bite-sized clouds of creaminess (the word cumulus from second grade science class comes to mind). A warm smile was glued on my face, and I was already planning my next dining experience here.

We Also Shared

In order to get the best deal, I opted for the 4 Course Prix Fixe–offered all year long and menu is regularly changing. For starters, the Gruyere Gougeres served with a raspberry chili jam. In my opinion, the cheese soufflé was perfect as is! I had the tomato soup (not shared because that would be awkward). Then their bruschetta, also part of the 4 course menu, was prepared with diced tomato.

The Dessert

…That part of the dining experience that should not be missed. As we heard the listing of available desserts, the simplicity of the vanilla bean crème brulee drew us in. My favorite part of this dessert is breaking the caramelized sugar before digging into the custard. The combination of smooth and crackling sugar is a great balance of textures.

Day or night, Angelique will serve up an enjoyable meal. Let me know your favorite dish by leaving a comment below.
